As the owner of a search engine optimization company, I have seen the SEO industry evolve a great deal over the years but never more dramatically than it is right now. Lately I have noticed signs that the "free ride" of getting easy website traffic from search engines is coming to an end. And that has caused many optimizers and website owners to ask themselves, "Is overnight SEO success still possible?"

In the early years (very early), it sure seemed like it was. One could simply add a bunch of keyword meta tags and get almost instant results. Then, meta tags were out and doorway pages were in.

The next fad was links from any and all sites, the more the better. When relevancy in links became a factor, many webmasters rushed to get link scripts installed and set up link directories with relevant categories.

Then content got a good run for a while. And most recently, text link ads (paid links) became all the rage.

Paid Links - The Straw That Broke Google's Back?

As soon as link popularity became the holy grail of SEO and webmasters began learning how to artificially increase it with paid links, Google began working on filters to stop ranking manipulation. It also seems to have inspired the rumored "aging delay" in which new sites on newly registered domains face long waits to get indexed by the grand daddy of all engines.

While catching cheaters is a good thing, a lot of legitimate, quality sites are also getting caught up in Google's new fishnet. There is plenty of grumbling among webmasters who report waiting up to nine months to appear in the Google rankings for even the most obvious keywords such as their company name.

Yes, getting top rankings in Google is definitely a lot harder (and slower) than it used to be. This is partly because more sites are being indexed and the sheer volume of competition is making it tougher to rise to the top. But that's only part of the picture.

Google and the other engines are hell bent on preventing rankings manipulation, and since they hold all the cards, we'd better learn to play the game by their rules. And that, funnily enough, could mean going back to some of the "no brainer" promotional methods in use four or five years ago, when many of us took our businesses online for the first time. Back then, we did things like distributing articles and press releases and buying ads in relevant publications - not for the incoming links but for the visibility, traffic and credibility they generated. It just made sense.

With overnight SEO success a thing of the past, online business owners/operators not only have to change tactics - they also need to adjust their expectations.

Keeping SEOs On Their Toes

Responsible and workable SEO these days means not wasting your time or money trying to trick the search engines into ranking you highly for keyword phrases that you have no business ranking for in the first place. That's why it's so important before signing on with any optimization company to discuss these new expectations with them. You need to be an informed consumer because there are still SEOs living in the (very recent) past and still deeply committed to paid linking schemes, keyword stuffing, etc.

Now more than ever you as an SEO client need to investigate the optimization companies you're considering. That means pumping them for details not just about their proven results but about their methodology such as keyword selection and link popularity before you pay the deposit.

Another reality check: SEO is going to be a tad more expensive in this new world (unless you are among the few who have the time, skills and resources to do it yourself). Reaching your target audience with interesting and compelling information about your industry is now the best way to achieve link popularity. But it's definitely not as easy, fast or cheap as buying 100 site-wide text link ads or swapping links willy nilly.

If you don't have the resources to produce regular copy about your business or industry, hiring an optimization company that has content writers to do the research and writing for you is probably your best bet. The benefits of greater link popularity AND visibility will be worth it over the long haul.

In Conclusion...

SEO continues to evolve, which these days means we all need to accept that getting top ten placements for competitive terms will not happen overnight nor in one month or even two.

Your task as a responsible SEO consumer is to do careful due diligence in selecting an optimization company. Be wary of any SEO that offers a quick fix, uses dubious tactics, and guarantees #1 rankings. Expect your optimization results to improve gradually over time.

No, overnight SEO success is no longer a reality for competitive keyword phrases but don't let that get you down. It's still worth doing... only now it's worth doing well.

Anyway, the alternative - doing nothing - isn't really an option. It reminds me of a saying hanging on the wall in my karate class: "While you are sleeping, someone else is training to kick your...."

Sementara foto Indah dengan baju pink dan dada nyaris terbuka tampaknya merupakan koleksi "pribadi". Namun entah bagaimana foto-foto mereka bisa berkelana di dunia maya. Iseng atau memang sebuah kesengajaan? Yang jelas foto-foto mereka jadi konsumsi user tanpa bisa mereka cegah.

Masih ingat foto nyeni Ratnasari Dewi? Skandal foto-foto janda Presiden Soekarno yang pernah menghebohkan dunia dengan pose syur yang dimuat dalam buku MADAM SYUGA yang diterbitkan sekitar tahun 90-an. Namun entah bagaimana ceritanya, foto eksklusif tersebut beredar di internet. Sebuah situs kategori dewasa memuat 15 buah foto-foto Dewi Soekarno dalam keadaan polos, telanjang badan.

Lain lagi dengan keisengan blogger asal Jogya, yang me-retouch kembali potret Mayang-Bambang dengan foto Presiden SBY, pakar telematika Roy Suryo serta beberapa tokoh parpol lainnya. Yuni sendiri mengaku, sama sekali tidak respect dengan kehadiran majalah yang punya lambang kelinci tersebut. Pasalnya, majalah itu bisa berdampak langsung terhadap nilai-nilai ketimuran kita. Menurutnya, tanpa ada majalah Playboy, di negeri ini saja sudah banyak model yang kalau hanya jalan-jalan suka tampil dengan busana yang transparan tak sesuai dengan tempat dan acaranya, apalagi kalau ada? katanya.

"Makanya saya sama sekali nggak antusias dengan kehadiran majalah itu, kalau sebagian orang mengatakan bahwa itu adalah salah satu bagian dari upaya mengangkat bangsa ini ke kancah internasional bukan dari situ. Banyak hal lain yang bisa lebih dikedepankan seperti prestasi sekolah dan kesehatan," katanya.

Kendati begitu, ibunda Shelo ini mengatakan, tak adil rasanya jika saat ini hanya majalah Playboy saja yang disudutkan. Sementara banyak majalah-majalah dan tabloid-tabloid lainnya yang mengumbar aurat di covernya.

"Nggak pantas juga kan kalau kita menghakimi untuk sesuatu yang belum jelas konsep dan bentuknya. Makanya sekarang ini, yang sangat diperlukan Indonesia adalah UU yang mengatur mengenai batasan pornografi dan pornoaksi di Indonesia," katanya. (kl/kkn/dar)

Google is apparently testing out click-to-call AdWords - I can’t see it myself, but Seth just searched for ‘refinance’ and spotted some phone icons alongside the AdWords listings. He entered his phone number and within five seconds received an automated phone call, which connected to the purchaser of the AdWords listing when it had him on the line. Wish I had a screenshot for you (UPDATE: screenshots below) - but here’s how it works, direct from the Google Click-To-Call FAQ:

What’s the phone icon on Google search results? How does it work?

We’re testing a new product that gives you a free and fast way to speak directly to the advertiser you found on a Google search results page – over the phone.

Here’s how it works: When you click the phone icon, you can enter your phone number. Once you click ‘Connect For Free,’ Google calls the number you provided. When you pick up, you hear ringing on the other end as Google connects you to the other party. Then, chat away on our dime.

We won’t share your telephone number with anyone, including the advertiser. When you’re connected with the advertiser, your number is blocked so the advertiser can’t see it. In addition, we’ll delete the number from our servers after a short period of time.

Seems Google’s getting into the pay-per-call business. What are the rates, I wonder?

A lot of business implications here but at the moment that little evil part of me is thinking ‘great, a single form-field way to pester others with crank calls from advertisers at three in the morning.’ Om Malik wrote about Google’s use of VoIP for commercial purposes back in September - I’m guessing the call made from Google to the lead (step 3 in the screenshots) is an early implementation of this. Of course Ingenio will be concerned - Google’s trying to eat their lunch.

THE LONGEST LIFE WITHOUT A HEAD (CHICKEN)

So what is the longest a chicken survived without a head?

We just had to include this story somehow.

In Fruita, Colorado, on September 10 1945, farmer Lloyd Olsen was sent out to kill a chicken for dinner. His mother-in-law loved to eat the neck, so Mr. Olsen tried to chop off as little of the neck as possible. With a swing of his axe, off came the head. The chicken, now known as 'Mike the Headless Chicken', started to run around as chickens do, but never stopped.

Mike the Headless Chicken became famous and began doing tours. Mr. Olsen charged 25 cents.

Mike was fed a mixture of water and milk with an eyedropper, and occasionally he was fed corn.

Mike finally died in 1947, after living for 18 month. He started choking in the middle of the night, and since the Olsen's left the syringes they used to clear his esophagus at the sideshow, they could not save him.

We could not find the exact date of his death as Mr. Olsen said he sold the chicken after Mike's death.

Oct. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Faced with poverty, surging oil prices and terrorist threats, many of Indonesia's 235 million people probably never noticed the milestone. Ditto for global investors, who care more about such things.

In April, Google Inc. surpassed Indonesia's entire stock market in value.

Think about it. A seven-year-old company that produces no physical products is now more valuable than the equity of Southeast Asia's biggest economy. Indonesia is an archipelago of some 18,000 islands holding natural resources --including oil -- that make the world's richest nations salivate. Google is, well, an Internet search tool.

It raises an intriguing question, and one Mark Matthews, a Singapore-based director at Merrill Lynch & Co., posed this week in a sales note to clients: Which would you rather own: 100 percent of the Indonesian equities market or Google?

A bit existential perhaps, but a question that focuses the mind and gets at a bigger point. Matthews' take on it? Indonesia is the clear winner.

``Indonesia is a hairy asset to be sure,'' he wrote. ``It has African levels of corruption, thousands of islands spread out over three time zones, Islamic extremists. But judging by the market's ability to withstand the most recent mini-crisis and Bali bombs, this is in the price. So there is upside if they can eventually get it right. And it is something real.''

Matthews can't help but wonder if Google will go the way of inventor Eli Whitney. ``The cotton gin changed America,'' Matthews wrote. ``It revitalized the South and boosted the British textile industry, and had a thousand other effects. And this earned the inventor, Eli Whitney, almost nothing.''

What's all this got to do with Google? ``That's sort of where Google is today,'' Matthews wrote. ``Google has a small lead over a pack of competitors, all eager to fight for one of the few remaining high-margin zones left in tech-land. Does Google management know that the supply of advertising space on the Internet is unlimited?

Google's market cap is $92 billion and last year it had $3.2 billion in sales. Indonesia's stock market is valued at $72 billion and its gross domestic product is $258 billion. PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, the nation's biggest telephone operator, alone had sales of 33.9 trillion rupiah ($3.3 billion) in 2004. In other words, one company that's just 14 percent of the Jakarta Composite Index had more sales than Google.

Indonesia's Pros and Cons

Matthews' basic conclusion is this: Folks who buy Indonesia at current prices may do better than those who buy Google.

In 1998, for example, Microsoft Corp.'s market cap was bigger than South Korea's. Now Microsoft's is $272 billion and Korea's is $530 billion. ``If I could take a 7-year view on them, I would long Indonesia and short Google,'' Matthews says.

Aficionados of the information age may fear Matthews is spending too much time in the tropical sun. The stock of the most- used Web search engine rose 62 percent this year alone. Clearly, people are making some serious money off Google. And how many companies have seen their name become a verb?

Google comparisons aside, Matthews raises some interesting points about the state of the world's fourth most-populous nation.

The aftermath of the deadly Oct. 1 bombings in Bali hasn't been what their perpetrators might have expected. If the hope of the suicide bombers who killed themselves and 19 other people was to shake confidence in Indonesia's economy, they failed miserably.

Bonds Tell the Story

That Indonesia's stocks are still up nearly 10 percent this year is one sign. A more important one is that Indonesia drew excess demand last week for its biggest overseas debt sale, and that it plans to sell more 30-year bonds in 2006.

If investors viewed Indonesia as a basket case -- which many did following the 2002 Bali bombings and the 2003 attack on the JW Marriott Hotel in Jakarta -- would they really have placed $4.25 billion of orders for the $1.5 billion of 10- and 30-year debt it sold? That demand prompted the government to increase the sale by 20 percent.

While the yields Jakarta is paying are higher than those offered in April, they were at the bottom of the range marketed to fund managers. The demand reflects confidence President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is making progress toward reducing Indonesia's budget deficit, protecting currency reserves and attacking corruption.

Subsidy Gamble

Risks indeed abound in Indonesia, an economy whose only real consistency is its ability to confound investors. The place has crushing poverty, terrorist threats and chronic inefficiencies. And those are just the concerns investors focus. Any Asia-wide outbreak of bird flu, for example, could hit Indonesia hard.

Yudhoyono says he's tackling the problems that cost Indonesia the foreign direct investment it needs. Earlier this month, he almost tripled kerosene prices and more than doubled diesel tariffs to cap fuel subsidies and reduce the budget deficit.

While a tricky maneuver for any leader, that's a particularly perilous one in Indonesia. In 1998, the removal of subsidies fueled violent protests that toppled President Suharto. Yet Standard & Poor's on Oct. 3 said Yudhoyono's move was ``encouraging'' and will spur investor confidence.

It's a reminder that in any Google versus Indonesia debate, Asia's No. 7 economy may not be as bad a bet as you think.

Paradoks pacaran

Pacaran sering di anggap sebagai bentuk pembelajaran. Argumennya, sebelum memastikan pasangan ada bagusnya mengenal dulu calon pasangan tersebut. Tapi apakah betul begitu?

Justru sebaliknya, pacaran adalah sesuatu yang tidak rasional. Dengan pacaran orang terpaksa, secara sadar atau tidak, untuk mencari kesempurnaan. Pembandingan selalu terjadi: dia lebih perhatian, dia lebih cakep, dia lebih mengerti saya dll. Pacaran jadi bertujuan menemukan sesorang yang sempurna. Padahal jatuh cinta (hati) berdasar pada ketidaksempurnaan: senyum dia, cara dia jalan, suara dia kalo ketawa, wajahnya ketika bengong. Singkatnya hati justru hanya bisa mengerti yang tak sempurna.

Pacaran juga bisa menjadi kutukan. Semakin banyak bekas pacar, semakin banyak kemungkinan membanding-bandingkan. Jika akhirnya menikah, bagaimana membicarakan bekas pacar dengan pasangan? Padahal bekas pacar itu punya andil membentuk diri kamu sekarang setelah menikah. Menyakiti dan disakiti tak bisa hilang begitu saja karena itu bagian dari pengalaman pribadi. Bekas pacar adalah termasuk pengalaman penting, tapi terpaksa ditekan dari memori. Semakin banyak bekas pacar, semakin banyak yang harus ditekan.

Teori ini menjelaskan observasi anekdotal bahwa pasangan jaman dulu lebih banyak yang langgeng padahal mereka di jodohkan. Jawabannya mungkin karena mereka tidak atau sedikit pacaran, sehingga mereka tidak memiliki referensi pembanding yang bisa membingungkan.

Pelajarannya: jangan terlalu banyak pacar karena kamu bakal terus menerus melakukan perbandingan yang akhirnya bikin bingung sendiri. Perbandingan ini bisa tak berhenti meskipun telah menikah. VCD Porno Siswi SMA Kembali Beredar

BANDUNG, (PR).-
Kota Bandung kembali dihebohkan dengan munculnya VCD porno dengan pemeran siswi SMA beradegan mesra bersama pasangannya di sebuah kamar. Adegan berdurasi sekira 30 menit itu direkam pada 14 April 2004 sekira pukul 16.00 WIB, menggunakan kamera yang disimpan statis pada satu tempat di lokasi yang diduga kuat masih di Kota Bandung.

Dalam tayangan itu, pemain perempuan yang masih mengenakan seragam SMA itu terlibat obrolan sebentar dengan teman prianya yang juga masih belia. Adegan itu berlangsung di atas kasur yang digelar di lantai kamar. Tak lama setelah itu keduanya terlibat adegan mesra layaknya suami istri.

Tayangan itu diduga diambil tanpa sepengetahuan keduanya. Kamera ditempatkan di pojok kanan ruangan berukuran sedang seperti sebuah kamar kos. Dalam melakukan hubungan intim tersebut, baik si wanita maupun teman prianya tetap mengenakan kaus dan celana pendek santai. Mereka tidak menanggalkan busananya.

Saat keduanya melakukan adegan panas tidak terdengar suara perbincangan, karena tertutup suara musik dari pesawat radio. Dari suara radio itu, dipastikan mereka melakukan perbuatannya di sekitar Kota Bandung, karena stasiun radio yang terdengar adalah sebuah stasiun swasta FM di Bandung.

Adegan keduanya sempat terhenti ketika ada suara lelaki dari luar memanggil nama "Indra". Lelaki berperawakan kurus yang berada di kamar tersebut keluar dan tak lama kemudian masuk lagi. Selanjutnya suara radio yang sempat dikecilkan oleh wanita berhidung mancung dan berparas manis dengan rambut lurus sebahu itu, kembali dibesarkan dan mereka pun kembali terlibat adegan mesra.

Buram

Kualitas gambar yang dihasilkan dari VCD tersebut tidak terlalu jelas dan nyaris buram, karena hanya mengandalkan sumber cahaya dari ruangan. Dalam tayangan itu terlihat logo sekolah yang terpasang di bahu kiri si perempuan. Namun, karena kualitas gambar yang dihasilkan sangat buram, tidak bisa dipastikan asal sekolah siswi berseragam putih abu-abu itu.

Peredaran VCD ini sendiri masih sangat terbatas. Bahkan di pasaran pun diduga belum beredar. Pantauan "GM" di pusat penjualan VCD "Kota Kembang" para pedagang mengaku belum memilikinya. "Belum ada tuh mas tahu kalau nanti mah," ujar seorang pedagang.

Siap usut

Polwiltabes Bandung siap mengusut keberadaan VCD porno yang mulai beredar di Kota Bandung itu. Bahkan, polisi akan proaktif untuk mengusut tuntas kasus yang berulang-ulang terjadi tersebut. Demikian dikatakan Kapolwiltabes Bandung Kombes Pol. Drs. Edmon Ilyas ketika dikonfirmasikan "GM" melalui telefon selulernya Senin (17/10) malam.

Dikatakan, meskipun belum mendapatkan informasi secara resmi tentang adanya peredaran VCD tersebut, polisi akan mengusutnya. "Saya baru tahu informasi itu, jika hal tersebut dilakukan di Kota Bandung kami siap mengusutnya dan tentunya hal itu harus dibuktikan dengan melakukan penyelidikan terlebih dahulu," kata Kapolwiltabes Edmon.

Ditambahkan Edmon, pihaknya sesegera mungkin mencari bahan-bahan untuk menyelidiki kasus tersebut. "Meskipun belum ada laporan, jika sudah dapatkan bahan dan memang disinyalir (VCD porno) itu dilakukan di Kota Bandung dan beredar di pasaran, kami akan usut." (B.89)***

a) What is Get Paid (To) Industry and how does it work?
There are literally hundreds of Get Paid Programs, which pay members money and/or points for reading email advertisements that are purchased by the programs advertisers. The value of money and points vary from program to program.

b)How do you subscribe to a Get Paid Program?
Get Paid Programs are 100% opt in. This means, members are required to sign up with the program/s of their choice, on their own accord.

These programs then send email advertisements to the email address currently mentioned in the user information area. Members are required to read the e-mail/ e-mail advertisement and click on the paid link/s. Most programs have “timers” where the member is required to stay on the advertised website for a specific period of time (for example, 20 seconds, 45 seconds, 60 seconds etc.), which again, vary from program to program. The member receives credit to his/ her account after the timer runs out.

c) Are there any rules to Get Paid Programs?
Yes. Every program has its own Terms Of Service (TOS), which potential members and existing members are required to read, understand and adhere. Most programs also have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) area, which gives ready answers to questions that are most frequently asked by members and non-members alike.

Paid to promote programs pay members:

In the GPT world, you may stumble across thousands upon thousands of programs, with POs offering ways to earn money, whether they are the same, or, completely different. The most common ones are listed below:

PTR (Paid-To-Read):
Paid-To Read programs are ones in which you are sent e-mails, whether on the actual site, called a Site Inbox, or, your own e-mail that you use (for example, Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo!Mail). Depending on the PTR that you have joined, e-mails may come as often as 40+ within one day, and as little as 1 per week. Each E-Mail usually contains around 1-5 links to sites, in which you will earn money for viewing those sites and reading their contents. You will be paid, like most programs, after you have visited the site for a certain amount of time, which is shown via a timer at the top of the page in a new frame.

PTC (Paid-To-Click):
Paid-To-Click programs are ones in which you click on banners on the site, then view and read the sites that pop-up after each banner that you click. Like PTRs, there is a timer which you will have to wait for. PTCs are usually built in to PTRs and are usually called, Paid Clicks, or Paid Links.

AutoSurf:
AutoSurf is a way of earning money just like PTCs and PTRs, only that they made in a fashion that everytime the timer has finished counting down, you will earn your money, as well as immediately moving on to the next site, excetera, excetera. Usually, the PO has the plugin to add turing numbers, in which, after the timer runs out, you must click on the correct number displayed once the timer runs out in order to proceed to the next site. This helps to stop cheaters from trying to cheat the program.

Bubble Game:
Bubble games are only allowed in E-Gold, and not PayPal (both online payment systems). Bubble games are just like bubbles. You sign-up for a bubble game and the owner of the bubble game will usually either double, triple, or whatever amount more, your original money that you put into the game. Once you put the minimum amount of money that is set by the owner into the game, you will be allowed to have your own bubble.
Your bubble rises as more people join in and create their own bubbles. Once you reach the top, your bubble "pops" and you receive your money back, including how much more that the owner promised.

Say for example, the owner promises 200% of your deposit once the bubble is complete. You deposit US$10. Once your bubble pops, you get US$20! You can keep on joining these bubble games and eventually, receive quite a lot of money!
However, there is a catch!
With Bubble Games, the last few people who join always loses and doesn't receive any money. Why? This is because when one person "pops" their bubble, the extra money that they receive is paid off by the members who joined after him/her, and so forth. However, many Bubble Games are neverending and thus, you will usually always earn more money and not lose, unless people stop joining the game. Like HYIP which will be explained below, the earlier your in, the safer you are and the earlier you'll "pop" (hopefully).

HYIP:
HYIPs are almost like Bubble Games in the risk factor. Here, you deposit a bit of money (usually a fixed amount), such as US$2. You are then paid everytime a person clicks on a certain link, or signs up under you. Why? This is because of they sign-up under you, they pay US$2, and thus, their sign-up payment is given to you. The person the new member signs up under is always random, so, the more people who join the HYIP, the less chances of you earning. However, unlike Bubble Games in which a Percentage is earned, HYIPs have no percentage. You are basically given unlimited US$2 payments (or whatever the owner specifies) for the rest of your life, as long as somebody signs up under you.
The thing about HYIPs is to sign-up early because as more people join, there will be less people left to actually join the program, and thus, once there are no more people wishing to join...the HYIP dies.

Paid Surveys:
Paid Surveys are quite popular due to the fact that you actually don't have to do something with it every single day, which releives stress out of many and allows you to sign-up for hundreds of Paid Surveys without having to stress you out or overload you. Basically, you are actually paid to take surveys. Although many do not believe this at first, it is actually totally true. Companies, espicially the big ones, do want your opinion. Why? This is because companies always wish to maximise profits and to do so, they must know what consumers like you and me want from them. Many song singles, movies and magazines are never seen by the general public because Paid Survey Results show that people do not like their certain products and thus, there is no point for the company to be selling them.

Thus, our opinions are vital for them and the amount that they pay for distributers to distribute and pay for us individuals to take these surveys are nothing compared to the profits that they will make for selling products that consumers like. Some companies even pay distributers to distribute Paid Surveys which help the companies to see the overall trend in society. Knowing what consumers buy these days is very vital in order to earn a lot.

For example:
When the Baby Boom had arrived, there were literally millions of babies in the world. Here, companies began massing on Babyware, such as nappies and baby food and they received heaps of profit. When these Baby Boomers became teenagers, deodarent, hair styles and clothing were most profitable. Now that they are all old, convenient tools, simple transport and an easy life in a lawn bowling club is what most need and thus, companies changes to fit these needs.

Society is forever changing and thus, Paid Surveys help to see how to maximise profits for companies. Even Sony gives out Paid Surveys for people to see what type of technological products consumers like today!

Discussion Groups:
Discussion Groups are usually an option in Paid Survey sites. Discussion Groups are basically like online chatrooms, where a certain amount of people who are allowed to join certain groups talk to each other about a certain issue, or, a certain type of product. Here, the conversation is recorded and given to the companies who paid for them. The member in return gets paid a fair amount, usually around US$100+ for their participation. Sometimes, a representative from the company itself will actually be the leader of the discussion group/focus group, asking those who participate various questions. If you love to voice your opinion, Discussion Groups/Focus Groups/Paid Surveys are the best for you! Who knows, your opinion might even help companies save millions, or, make them earn millions!

Search Engines:
Search Engines are not like Google. These SEs that we talk about are ones in which each and every link on the SE is paid by advertisers who bid on the words. You earn a percentage, usually 60-90% of the bidded price for the certain site. Each time a person clicks on the site (usually 1-3 times a day only per IP Address), you will earn money. Thus, if you advertise them heaps, you may be earning heaps of money.

Those listed above are only the basic ways of earning money online. There are many more, including starting your own online company, Graphic Designing, Web Designing, Programming, and much, much more. Unfortunately, I will talk to you about the full details of how to make money in the above, nor the ones I have summarised for you even further above. Why? This is because I am currently in the process of creating an E-Book which will talk about almost ALL the ways of earning money online, as well as Full Instructions and Support on how to make money in each category. My E-Book will be around 600 pages as far as I can visualise currently. May be more or less in the future.

Below are some Golden Rules:

1. In the GPT World, always watch out for scams. For PTRs and PTCs, etc, you should always look at how much it costs advertisers to advertise in the program. If the advertising cost does not give the PO a profit over how much the PO must pay for his/her members viewing the advertisement, then, it is most probably a scam unless the PO has other ways of earning money from the site to pay for any debt.

2. Always check that the program doesn't give you too much, at too high a pay-out. If the pay-out is over US$30, I generally do not trust the site because it is most probably a scam. If the payment per link that you click is above 1c, it is usually a scam. Therefore, if you see sites that have US$1 links, they are most probably scams out to get the newbies who think that they will earn heaps. They never pay.

3. Never give your password away to anybody, even if the PO "supposedly" sends you an e-mail asking you for your password. May 23, 2005: The Miss Universe 2005 beauty pageant ran into a controversy last week, when Buddhists in Thailand objected to some of the pictures which appeared in the local papers, which showed the bikini-clad Miss Universe 2005 hopefuls posing with the sacred Buddhist temple Wat Arun, or "Temple of Dawn" in the background.

Thailand is hosting this year's edition of the Miss Universe 2005 beauty contest, where selected candidates from across the world converge in the Thai capital of Bangkok for the pageant finale on May 31.

Miss Indonesia Artika Sari Devi was Asia's only representative when the names of Miss Universe 2005 15 semifinalists were announced at the finals here on Tuesday.

The semifinalists were dominated by contestants from northern and Latin American countries.

"I was very surprised. It was stunning for me to be in the last 15," Artika told Indonesian reporters.

"It was such an honor to represent Asian women in the final. And more than that, I am here to represent my country," she said.

For Artika, being in the last 15 was such a great achievement although some would decry her very participation. "This achievement is not only for me but also the rest of the nation."

In reference to the controversy in her country over pageants, she added, "As I have followed all the process here, I know for sure that there is no such thing as a body-measurement session as complained by some groups back home."

Artika decided to join the pageant virtually at the last minute before the pageant started on May 13.

"I know that there are some groups who oppose my participation in the pageant but again I am representing Indonesia here. However, I respect their opposition."

Artika is the first Indonesian to fully participate in the annual beauty pageant with her participation at the swimsuit session during the presentation on May 25. Earlier attendants were "observers" as their organizers bowed to pressure back home against Indonesia's participation in a contest parading women's bodies. In the swimwear session Artika wore a one-piece swimsuit, as did contestants from Bahamas, China, Mauritius, U.S. Virgin Islands and Sri Lanka.

Indonesia last participated in 1996 was Alya Rohali, now a popular TV host, joined the pageant as an observer without joining the swimsuit session.

Artika also said she was struck by a text message she received just before the finals, which said nude pictures of her were circulating on the Internet.

"I tried to be strong. I can assure you the pictures were not of me." Given tight security and the tight schedule she managed to meet her family backstage before the finals, for just 10 minutes.

Although she was happy to be in top 15, Artika said that she was expecting more support especially from the government.

"Actually, the participation in this pageant is a good opportunity to promote the country more. It's quite sad, most of the contestants do not know where Indonesia is. They think Indonesia is part of Bali," she said.

She was also referring to other contestants who had groups of supporters flying their national flags, blowing whistles and beating drums to show their support.

After all this, Artika said she would return to her study to get a master degree in notary studies at the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, adding she hopes to work for the National Commission for Children Protection (Komnas PA).

Meanwhile, former education minister Wardiman Djojonegoro said he was very happy with Artika entering top 15 as the Putri Indonesia Foundation did not set a specific target for her participation.

"But from what I hear, Artika is very popular here not only among the contestants but also the Thais," he said. "Perhaps her only weakness is the fact that she was among the shortest among contestants. This is very visible on stage."

Wardiman, however, was upbeat that Artika's success would lead to more talented Indonesian young women applying for the Putri Indonesia pageant as well as better support and sponsors.

While host Thailand may be disappointed as Miss Thailand Chananporn Rosjan did not make it into the semifinals, Chananporn did get the Best National Costume competition on May 24.

This is my suggestion. First, you will get you money back in 45 days.
Then, you can continue to surf and collect your profits.

1. You start on 1st of month, say 1st May 2005 with your $1000 upgrade.

2. Surf daily and when you reach more than half, upgrade using your earning. At day 13, your earning will be 13x4%=52%.
So you will earn 520 and you upgrade all of this. Your level now becomes $1520.

3. Now surf daily until end of month and no upgrade.
Your earning will be 18x4%x$1520=$1094.40 on May 31.

4. On 1st Jun, you upgrade $688 from your earning so that your level becomes $2188. This brings your minimum cash out to $1094 (slightly lower than your May 31 earning), and your balance is $406.40.

Every business seeks the one product no one else has at the lowest price possible, for the greatest potential profit. Few companies will be so lucky. Instead, successful selling relies on choosing reliable suppliers able to offer quality goods at a fair price.

It's the source that counts, and eBay entrepreneurs face a plethora of choices to stock their businesses with anything from collectibles to industrial equipment. Suppliers may be located around the corner or around the globe. They may be someone you know or a factory owner overseas you'll never meet.

Where to Start
So where do you find a supplier? A good search engine can help you find hundreds of companies online using search terms like "wholesale merchandise," "drop-ship services," "closeout dealers," "job lot traders" or "liquidators." For sources in print, check the classifieds in newspapers, trade journals or your community penny-pincher newsletter (available free at supermarkets and drugstores). These publications list dealers specializing in closeouts and discontinued or irregular items, in addition to estate sales, which may include private collections of books and other items that would find eager buyers on eBay. Specialty publications such as Closeout News are also good sources.

Closeouts and job lots are quick, easy ways to get a business going. But when you've got neon-framed sunglasses one month, and you have fleece socks the next, it's hard to establish a niche business that will draw repeat customers. For companies looking to build a specialty, the better choice may be to contract directly with manufacturers or, more commonly, a manufacturer's rep (a salesperson hired by a manufacturer to promote distribution).

Trade shows offer the eBay retailer access to manufacturers and sales reps in one location, plus the benefit of meeting face to face to test the chemistry and assess product quality firsthand. Trade shows typically focus on a specific market segment, such as toys, novelties, military surplus or electronics, so determine what you want to sell before you go.

Making the most of a trade show requires some preliminary footwork to avoid wasting time and money, says Sam Bundy, group president at VNU Expositions, a trade show organizer with offices throughout North and South America. Business owners can check VNU's list of shows at www.merchandisegroup.com or their local convention and visitors' bureau, which usually has a calendar of such events. Make sure the show you choose is worth the admission price by contacting show management and asking about the number of exhibitors—not booths, since one company may have more than one booth—and what products will be represented. Look for shows where exhibitors are mostly small to midsize wholesalers and distributors as opposed to major manufacturers that are less likely to sell to a smaller operator.

Matching a supplier to your own interests or expertise can help move the process along, whether choosing from a trade show exhibitor or browsing vendors online. Jack Sheng got his start as an eBay entrepreneur because of his obsession with electronics, particularly cell phones and cell phone accessories. His hobby made him an expert on the industry's leading suppliers, a connection complemented by a friend who had links to potential trading partners. From there, Sheng, 29, studied the market by attending industry events and traveling to companies to understand how products were made. Today, with $12 million in annual sales, Sheng's Eforcity (eBay User ID: eforcity) in Temple City, California, is one of the largest eBay sellers (ranked by unique customer feedback and by the number of transactions).

After more than 30 years selling used restaurant equipment, A City Discount (eBay User ID: acitydiscount) knows its industry. So when the company, which had sales last year of $3.75 million, decided to expand its business on eBay to include new equipment, it knew which suppliers to avoid and which it could trust. "We picked those we knew had an inventory and would be able to supply the product," says John Stack, CEO of Peach Trader, the Atlanta company that owns A City Discount. The best source for vetting a manufacturer's reliability, Stack adds, is often the manufacturer's own representative. "A manufacturer's rep frequently will tell you if the manufacturer can fill orders on time," Stack, 53, says.

Perhaps the best source of well-priced goods is Asia, but contracting with suppliers out of the country presents challenges. The primary link to this market is through manufacturer's reps or importers in the United States who have connections to an overseas counterpart or to a factory. Every layer adds a surcharge, but the price of experts who know this complex market is worth it. "It's insurance, and you need to add as much insurance as you can," says Jason Sprong, a partner with Vital Sourcing in Boulder, Colorado, which specializes in sourcing and logistics in China. "You still save between 30 and 60 percent off the price of what you'd get in the [United] States," Sprong, 32, adds. A good rule of thumb for overseas as well as domestic orders is to aim for a total cost of acquisition at 80 percent of the selling price and warehouse and shipping expenses.

Sourcing can be an ongoing challenge for startup businesses, and entrepreneurs have to be alert to any way they can keep fresh stock coming. A City Discount stays in touch with suppliers such as national and regional restaurant chains so the company is ready when an opportunity presents itself. A menu change, for example, might make certain equipment obsolete, and A City Discount makes sure it's there to take the items off their hands. "These companies don't want to be in the equipment business," Stack says.

Sometimes, the source can be dozens or hundreds of individuals and small businesses. Med1Online (eBay User ID: med1online) specializes in new and used medical equipment, and some of its sources for used equipment are physicians upgrading to newer technology. When a doctor wants to buy new from Arvada, Colorado-based Med1Online, the company always asks what the plan is for the outgoing machine. "The people we're selling to are also the people we're buying from," says president Scott Carson, 41. The company anticipates sales of more than $10 million this year.

Companies can consider themselves lucky to have such mutually beneficial exchanges, but even expediency can't overcome price as the deciding factor in choosing a supplier. Negotiations are a tricky process of parry and thrust that only informed entrepreneurs can win.

Consider trade shows. Many exhibitors won't be appropriate trading partners because minimum order requirements are too high. Once you find suppliers who will sell at low volumes, work begins at setting a fair price. "Ask those vendors what their best price is, don't commit to it, then compare it to four or five others," says Bundy. "Then you'll know what the market price is." Submit a bid at that level, or test your luck and low-ball it. You can always sweeten the offer by paying 5 to 10 percent upfront and the rest c.o.d.

Most suppliers expect to haggle over price, but you should resist the urge to bargain down to the last nickel. A supplier who walks away feeling cheated probably won't be eager for more of your business. "I would not try to play the price war," says Sprong. "You're probably going to lose, and if you don't, it will be a one-time transaction."

When you're ready to buy, order as much as you can afford to warehouse if you're not using a drop-shipper. Suppliers are volume-driven, and they offer a better price when more goods are moving. Try to order 10 percent more than your last order.

In some cases, paying less can be an advantage. "Sometimes I pay too much for something and too little for others," says Carson. Such flexibility helps build trust and positions the business relationship for the long term.

Points also go to companies that avoid burdening a contract with terms such as returns of unsold goods. "That's almost consignment sales," says Bundy. "Suppliers are not looking to take your risk."

Negotiating price with a supplier presents a Catch-22. Suppliers offer their best price to vendors who can make products move, while vendors say they can move more products when they get products cheaper. New companies also face the challenge of reassuring suppliers of their staying power. Stack recommends starting with local suppliers who can judge the legitimacy of your business firsthand, and starting with less pricey items that don't represent a huge risk to the wholesaler. The point is to create a track record. "Today, I have manufacturers approaching me to push their lines who had historically refused to sell to me," Stack says.

Demonstrating the advantage of selling on eBay adds to a company's negotiating strength. "You need to educate suppliers about the power of eBay," says Eric Crawford, a partner and co-founder of Essex Technology Group (eBay User ID: buyessex). "We explain that you can sell anything here."

This Nashville, Tennessee, company has its own way of reassuring suppliers. The company specializes in customer returns, overstock and discounted electronics and sells them on eBay on consignment, which means suppliers don't get paid until the items sell. Essex's proprietary tracking software lets suppliers track the status of each item from the time it leaves the warehouse to the moment the product is sold. "Most companies would be scared to send a truckload of product to any Tom, Dick or Harry," Crawford, 30, says. This way, suppliers can keep a close watch on their goods as well as their buyers.

The more reassurance a company provides, the better the business's long-term health. "Confidence," Crawford says, "is the hardest part of sourcing."

What's Your Worth?You know your business on eBay is a sourcing success when you have Med1Online's problem. The company's inventory had grown so much, customers needed an easier way to find what they wanted.

Many items in the company's stock of sophisticated medical equipment have the same function, but individual features may vary from unit to unit. And those are the features that Med1Online's savvy customers wanted. Scrolling through a few choices is one thing, but when the options fall into the hundreds, says Scott Carson, president of Med1Online in Arvada, Colorado, "it's a whole 'nother enchilada." Med1Online helps customers navigate this complexity with a listing tool that lets buyers search by individual product features, a utility that adds value to the shopping process and gets customers on and off the site quickly. That, in turn, gets products out the door faster.

Adding value comes down to making things easier for customers. It can be as simple as making sure eBay listings are spelled correctly and pictures are professional looking and large enough for eyes older than 40 to see. Med1Online adds value by fine-tuning the shopping experience. But attention to the process can be applied at any stage, either in the way a business leverages its products or in the quality of service and support after the sale.

Leverage at A City Discount means offering customers a one-stop shop. "We have a broad product line that covers different subcategories of restaurant equipment so customers can outfit a complete restaurant from us," says John Stack, CEO of Peach Trader, the Atlanta company that owns A City Discount. The company also lets customers bundle multiple orders so they pay one shipping rate—a small but still appreciated savings.

Integrity also adds value when buying used equipment. Essex Technology Group—which handles, among other things, auction management, asset recovery and product testing for clients—tests each item to see what works and what doesn't, then shares the findings with buyers online. "We tell customers exactly what is wrong," says Eric Crawford, a partner and co-founder of the Nashville, Tennessee-based company. Even then, faulty products usually find a buyer, because "people will try and fix them themselves," Crawford says, proving the adage that anything can sell on eBay.

Now that you've got a website, how do you make money from it? There are at least two ways in which sites can make money:
Advertising Revenue
Selling Goods and Services
I shall deal with the second case, "Selling goods and services", in another article. In this article, I will address the issue of how your site can actually make money from advertising.

Making Money From Advertising
If you look at many websites, you will probably notice that there are banner advertisements displayed on most pages. If you are a newcomer to the scene, you might think that you must either be a company or that your site must be famous before you can get advertisers, just as it is the case in hardcopy publications.

In reality, anyone with a website can get advertisers. While it is true that if your site is well-known, you may get companies contacting you to offer to advertise on your site, you can get advertising revenue even if you are just starting out and your site is relatively unknown.
The way to do this is to join as an "affiliate" of various sites, either directly, or through an affiliate network. An affiliate network is simply an intermediary where you can select from a variety of advertisers.

Payment Schemes
Before joining any program, you should probably be aware of the different payment schemes available.

Pay Per Impression
Here, you are paid according to the number of times the advertiser's banner is displayed on your site. The amount you earn is typically calculated based on the number of thousand impressions of the banner (impressions = number of times the banner is displayed), often abbreviated CPM (cost per thousand, with the M being the Latin numeral for thousand). That is, $5 CPM means that you get paid $5 for 1,000 displays of the banner. In general, the amount paid is usually small, but it is easy to earn since everytime a visitor loads the page, you earn. This is known as a "high conversion rate". Needless to say, this method will allow you to automatically earn more if your site attracts a lot of visitors.

Pay Per Click
When you are paid per click, you are only paid when visitors click the advertiser's banner on your site. The amount paid is usually higher than the pay per impression scheme. Whether you get a high conversion rate here depends on the banner (whether it attracts people to click it), although in general, it has a higher conversion rate than the pay per sale method. A high traffic site will probably enjoy a higher click rate than a lower traffic site, although you will probably get better results if your banners are carefully selected to suit the target audience of your site.

Pay Per Sale or Lead
While you will probably get the highest payment rates with this method, it has the lowest conversion rate of the three schemes. You will only earn if your visitors click through the banner and either purchase an item from the advertiser or take some other prescribed action (eg, sign up for a service). Like the Pay Per Click method, you get much better results if you carefully select your advertisers to suit the target audience of your site.
In general, to avoid wasting resources in issuing cheques for very small amounts, advertisers will usually accrue the amount owing to you until it reaches a certain level (such as $25) before they pay you.

How To Choose An Affiliate Program
How should you choose an affiliate program? My suggestion is not to choose a program according to the payment scheme, but rather according to the kind of people who are likely to visit your website. For example, if you are targeting parents on your site, links to affiliates with educational software, books and the like may generate more revenue than banners that link to web hosting companies. The most important rule of choosing an affiliate program is to know your target audience.

Another point to consider is whether you really want to join every single affiliate program that comes your way. Some studies suggest that sites that make the most money from affiliate programs are affiliates of only a small handful of programs. Furthermore, concentrating your advertisements from one network may allow you to be paid faster. If you advertise for hundreds of different affiliate networks on your site, you may wind up earning only (say) a few dollars per month from each network. If your advertiser's minimum payment amount is higher than what you can earn each month, it may take you a long time before you accrue enough to be paid.

On the other hand, that formula does not necessarily hold true for every site (or every page on your site, for that matter). For example, if your site has a particular theme, and an affiliate network only supports one or two suitable advertisers, you might want to sign up for a few affiliate networks so as to get a greater number of relevant advertisers. After all, advertisements that are relevant to your audience are more likely to be taken up than general advertisements. (What's the point of putting banners from only one affiliate if nobody is going to click them?)

Get Started
Advertising revenue is one of the most effortless way to earn money from your site. You merely have to put the banner there and wait for the money to roll in. (Well, okay, not quite. You will still need to have some visitors first before you can make anything.)
Why wait? If you already have a website, let it earn even while you sleep (literally). Every day you let your site "idle" without advertising is a day of lost opportunity.

The 10 Secrets to Make Money on eBay

Some people think they can make money on eBay by setting a high price for something they perceive to have a high value. The problem is that their perception is skewed. Very often they assign an emotional value to the item and are disappointed when they can't get their asking price.

You can avoid disappointment and even losing money by following these simple steps:

1) Don't buy anything.
The object here is to make money on eBay. So don't spend any. It often very tempting to surf eBay and buy something that you think you need.

Start out by having a "garage sale" or clean out the basement. In other words sell what you got. On eBay especially, one man's junk is another man's treasure. Old books, toys, tools, souvenirs, office supplies, electronics, etc. Anything you can find, you can sell. You will just have to set reasonable expectations on price.

2) Research pricing.
The biggest mistake made is setting an opening bid too high. It works against you in two ways. First, a prospective bidder may not even open your item. The opening price is listed on the summary. Second, it costs more to list it at a higher price.

3) Lose the sentimental value.
This is the toughest part. When we are selling mementos, memorabilia or other items, we tend to remember the circumstances upon which we got them. "Remember how long we had to stand in line for those concert tickets?" or "That was from my first car."

If you can't stand to part with it… don't. Other people will not have the same attachment to it that you do. Price it as if you were going to go to the mall and buy it today.

Antiques and ephemera generate their own "sentimental value" by the provenance or history of the object. But it is unlikely that your ownership has added much to that.

4) Set a low starting price.
The best opening bid is one that is high enough to indicate some value. Bids starting at a penny or a dollar are often thought of as junk and a waste of time. But a hundred dollar item opening at ten dollars is a real bargain.

To determine the best starting bid. Surf eBay and the rest of the Internet for similar items. Look at both the new retail cost and the resale value. Then set your price low enough to get generate some excitement. It will rise to its proper value.

5) Place it for 7 days.
This is the standard listing. Listing it for a shorter period may seem to generate a bid sooner. In reality, it is missing out on a lot of potential buyers who will return when it's close to closing time - not the best way to make money on eBay.

6) Make it pretty.
At the very least use a photo. No matter how well you describe you will ALWAYS benefit from the extra 'thousand words". It will result in more bids and higher bids (important to make money on eBay). Even if it looks like junk, the buyer knows exactly what they are getting.

Even better, use ad builder software to dress up your presentation.

7) Don't buy any extras
BOLD listings, slide show, gift tags, etc. all add up to increase the fees associated with your listing. This only serves to reduce your profit.

8) Cover your costs
Do not estimate the shipping costs. Use actual costs. Be sure to include charges for the shipping materials, as well as postage. The best way is to use free materials supplied for Priority Mail. Using Stamps.com or a postage meter is convenient, but be sure your scale is accurate. More than once I've had to add postage at the post office.

9) Use Paypal.
The quicker you get paid, the quicker you make money on eBay. Paypal is instantaneous. No waiting for the "check is in the mail" and no waiting for the check to clear.

10) Do it often.

Autosurf.biz is just one of these previous scams. In fact, it was executed in much the same way Surf Junky is. Primo Creations set it up, asked people to surf for cash, then took off with all the money. Not a single person was paid. They even sold the website to another guy who is now having problems with the code.

E-gold account holdings at all times represent a claim to a specified quantity of gold. The user may take physical delivery of the gold upon payment of an additional charge. However, most users permit the operator to retain possession of the purchased gold. E-gold transactions are completed electronically, usually over the Internet, and they always settle by weight of the gold even if denominated in some other way. This ties the e-gold currency system directly to the value of gold in such a way that its value cannot be directly manipulated in the way that paper fiat currency can. Therefore, the value of any individual e-gold account fluctuates against national currencies according to the spot price of gold. Digital currency denominated in other precious metals besides gold is also offered, including silver, platinum and palladium. However, gold is by far the most popular precious metal used on the e-gold system.
Numerous third party web sites (http://www.e-gold.com/unsecure/links.htm) sell e-gold grams in exchange for a fiat currency, for a percentage transaction fee.
